More Salvations
What a wild week. A week of annoyances but still laughter. Another week of frustrating rodent infestations keeping us up at night yet there was truth this week and a new outlook that things might be getting better!
We saw 2 more seafarers come to know Jesus this week. It was an seemingly impossible situation because of a frustrating language barrier that threatened to keep us from sharing Jesus with 2 men who spoke Spanish. Bits of my 2 years of Spanish in highschool resurficed but the words that we wanted to say and felt we needed to say were hard going. We had an English Bible and they held Spanish Bibles. We pointed to Scripture and had them read it outloud in their very own language. It was only b/c these Bibles had been donated was this experience occuring. And we waited and prayed that these guys would understand what the three of us were saying. We started with a group of 30 -- 1 of us sharing the gospel to the group and the other 2 of us praying desperately for God to make a way. Afterwards, 2 of the Hispanic origin men came and wanted more. It wasn't enough to just hear about it. They wanted Jesus. The entire group took at least a Bible each. Several asking for extra copies to give to their wives and friends. It was astonishing.
We take our Bible for granted. I have 3 of my own and it doesn't really faze me. How many do you have on your shelf that you don't read? My Bible is in English and I can read it -- I have different translations that I can read to try and get a better understanding. But, these men took at least one copy and held it like it was a piece of gold. Special to them. Those 2 lives would never be the same.
2 days later, we found ourselves speaking at a chapel service at a local Christian school. Sharing what we do and sharing some stories about our lives. Afterwards, 1 little girl walks up and she was just in tears. Her head down and she was just sobbing. She had prayed to receive Jesus. We high-fived her! She was so concerned for her parents who she said do not know Jesus. How would she tell them? What would they say? Her parents had never been married and it did seem that she desperately wanted them back together as they are separated.
So, suddenly all of our issues with unwelcome visitors in the form of nasty rodents and all of our troubles seem not to be as important anymore. Isn't it funny how God sometimes makes our problems seem so small?
